Xenos forms Healthcare Solutions Division

Xenos focuses its integration and delivery solutions in the healthcare sector

TORONTO, Ontario, September 8, 2004 - Xenos Group Inc. (TSX:XNS), today announced the formation of a healthcare solutions division. The mandate of Xenos Healthcare Informatics is to deliver the benefits of Xenos' widely respected electronic data and document integration solutions to the healthcare sector.

Xenos' solutions enable seamless communication between technologically incompatible clinical as well as administrative systems. The healthcare industry has developed silos of information not readily accessible to those who require it on a timely basis. Enabling seamless communication between hospitals, community services and physicians will not only reduce healthcare costs and eliminate unnecessary activities but will make a positive contribution to the care of the patient. For example, according to industry commentators, a more timely electronic distribution of the Patient Discharge Summary will lead to better after-care outcomes.

Xenos has identified over a dozen specific integration solutions aimed at the Healthcare Sector.

Among the Solutions that Xenos has already delivered:

  • Connecting a patient record system with an electronic archive to eliminate manual scanning and indexing of paper records by hospital staff.
  • Providing a regional healthcare system with secure electronic medical record transmission for timely access by physicians and pharmacies.
  • Converting a paper-based invoicing system to an electronic delivery solution for both internal users and customers.
  • Delivering medical records in HL7 format from any current output format.

These solutions, along with others offered by Xenos, are focused on addressing healthcare productivity, compliance with privacy legislation and cost savings.

A typical Xenos solution delivers a tremendous return on investment. Information and communication technology integration will result in cost savings and increased operating efficiencies and will not represent a net burden to the Healthcare System.

Xenos currently has in excess of twenty Healthcare customers including Blue Cross/Blue Shields, hospitals, regional healthcare authorities, pharmaceutical companies, health insurance and payer enterprises.

Xenos healthcare solutions will be exhibited at the following events:

  • Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) Summit Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on September 12-14, 2004. The HIPAA conference brings together leading healthcare companies seeking solutions to compliance and technology issues arising from the mandated need to implement the provisions of HIPAA.
  • As a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Xenos will be exhibiting at the Annual HIMSS 2005 conference in Dallas, Texas on February 13-17, 2005. The annual HIMSS conference attracts over 20,000 healthcare professionals.
"Solving the integration issues is the principal obstacle on the long path to a viable electronic health record. With over 15 years of software development experience, and two recent strategic acquisitions, Xenos is uniquely positioned to address the most complex of data, document and secure communication challenges in the healthcare community, including enabling the Electronic Health Record," said Stuart Butts, Chairman and CEO.
