ECM Migration
When it comes to content migration, organizations have four choices:
- Do nothing, particularly where there is no motivation to change the status quo. By not making changes however, organizations face excessive operational costs and the risks associated with noncompliance with new governance requirements.
- Federate, allowing multiple archives to be simultaneously searched, returning results within a single document. This approach requires multiple modern solutions, as legacy content has to be modernized before it can be federated. Solutions also tend to be application specific.
- Migrate content from legacy solutions into modern ECM systems. By consolidating multiple archives, organizations minimize support needs and licensing costs and can begin to eliminate obsolete technology.
- Combine Federation and Migration with a hybrid approach, and migrate only those older or obsolete systems to modern ECM systems and use a federation layer to allow for cross platform search across archives that have not been migrated.
